About:

Do you want to learn one arm handstand or improve your active flexibility without pain?

Handstand Efficiency concept uses principles from strength training, martial arts biomechanics, yoga and other body/mind training forms and applies them into the staticity of Hand Balancing.

During the two days practical seminar we will first learn various active (martial arts) stretches which make the leverage of the legs and center of the body (in Sanskrit - hara or in Chinese - dantian) more pliable and efficient so the arms carry less weight when in handstand.

Second we will use the mobility for basic handstand warm up exercises such as scissor kick up, tuck jump, straddle, pike, look through handstand and we warm up our balance awareness.

The third part of the training, the group will be divided and everyone will work individually with the teacher on a skill matching to his/her level such as one arm handstand, press to handstand, different entries, mexicana, planche etc. If necessary, the beginners will continue with more „prep“ exercises and work on their balance & breathing.

The ending belongs to compensation exercises & conditioning to balance all muscle groups and prevent injuries.

Jan Jirak

Jan’s path has started with an acrobatic and intuitive form of dance widely known as Break Dance which he later applied at Academy of Performing Arts in Prague as an expressive tool. After some accidents and injuries he had no other option, either to stop or to dig into injury prevention and body & mind connection. So he began with analytical training of Hand Balancing & Flexibility at Academy of Modern Circus in Copenhagen, Denmark. When he finnished 5 years of Art/Movement education he came back to Prague to teach subject called Movement Laboratory at Nonverbal Theater Department of the Art Academy where him and his students research different kinds of movement styles from both biomechanical & expressive point of view. At the same time the #PragueHandstand project was founded to help people to get knowledge about professional handstand training in Czech Republic.
Jan has been also working with different Yoga teachers, Calisthenics teachers and Martial Arts teachers, learning more about function of various kung fu styles and it’s application in Handstand and, in general, Movement Training.

**The hardest skill to possibly learn is one arm handstand full flag or one arm press up.
